How master's and MBA programs work

Most master's degrees in the USA take one to two years. You can choose academic programs (MA or MS) that focus on research and theory, or professional programs built around a specific field.

The MBA

The MBA (Master of Business Administration) covers leadership, strategy, finance and marketing. Traditional programs take two years, and many universities also offer accelerated one-year options. Most MBA programs look for some professional experience.

Entry requirements

You need a bachelor's degree and your academic transcripts, proof of English (for example TOEFL, IELTS or the Duolingo English Test), a statement of purpose, recommendation letters and a CV. Some programs ask for GRE or GMAT scores, while many do not. If your bachelor's degree took three years, we check how US universities will evaluate it.

Student visa

Most international students study on an F-1 student visa. Once you are admitted, your university issues a Form I-20. You then pay the SEVIS fee, show that you can cover your tuition and living costs, and attend a visa interview at a US embassy or consulate.

Costs

Tuition and living costs vary widely between programs, universities and cities. We give you a clear estimate for each program on your shortlist, so you can plan with confidence.
